The study of intricate details of anatomy via development of a three dimensional model in our mind by means of illustrated textbooks or animated computer models is challenging. These education tools approximate, but do not substitute, for the multi-dimensional multi-modal experience that cadaver dissection offers.
In addition, access to hands-on lab dissections which still regarded as the gold standard of anatomy teaching, is significantly restricted by time and availability of cadaver tissue.
Virtual Dissection Technology
To respond to this challenge, we developed the 4D Anatomy Atlas Platform based on cutting-edge virtual dissection technology to bring the multi-dimensional visual experience of anatomy dissection to personal computers.
4D Anatomy's virtual dissection recreates the hands-on lab based experience in an interactive photographic environment.
Users can review the progress of various stages of micro-surgical dissections and surgical procedures from any angle or magnification, and "manipulate" anatomy specimens as in the laboratory (remove body parts, drill bone etc) without actually being there.
4D Anatomy Atlas Platform Highlights:
- 4D Anatomy brings the vivid experince of lab dissection straight to your desktop.
- The content is based on photography exclusively as opposed to animations.
- Users are in control of image navigation and manipulation.
- Photographic images are captured during meticulous microsurgical dissections with specialty hardware and reconstructed into interactive multidmensional modules.
Interactive Virtual Dissection Imaging Modules
The 4D Anatomy atlas is a customized virtual dissection tool that allows users to assemble an individual collection according to their specific focus of interest in the various anatomical regions.
4D Anatomy Viewer allows viewing and managing modules (insert, delete, assemble etc) according to individual requirements.
The use of the product gives the perception of reaching through the screen and touching the specimen in its natural state. The technology makes the otherwise vanishing, one-time cadaver dissection experience reproducible at anytime via the convenience of home computers.
The specimen can be freely rotated , panned, zoomed and various layers of dissection viewed at user discretion on their own timeframe. The available modules are organized into three different categories: dissections, bones and radiology imaging (DSA, CT and MR).
Advanced Product Features
- Advanced image manipulation tools allow blending layers for a unique view of multiple areas of the body. Structures can be projected onto the surface of the skin to study location and spatial relationship of adjacent anatomy.
- The 4D Anatomy Viewer also provides comprehensive eLearning syllabus for anatomy studies.
- Users are able to specify content in thematic views, view multimedia content, add comments, search and select anatomic structures, and with the click of a button navigate to them
- Precise illustrations enrich the syllabus content.
4D Anatomy Atlas Platform Summary
- The 4D Anatomy virtual dissection software will be delivered in modules, with the Head and Neck Basic Collection initially available in DVD format.
- The Head and Neck Module covers the anatomic regions of the face, the skull base, the neck, the brain and the upper cervical spine. Text, tables, labeling, syllabus, export functions, personalization and a quiz further enrich the learning experience.
Future virtual dissection modules include the Spine, the Thorax, the Abdomen, the Pelvis, the Lower Extremities and the Upper Extremities. Web-based subscriptions will also be available in future releases.
